The Press is the publishing branch of the University of British Columbia. Established in 1971, it is among the largest university presses in Canada. It is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost publishers of political science, Native studies, and forestry books. Other areas of particular strength are Asian studies, Canadian history, environmental studies, planning, and urban studies. The Press publishes more than forty new books annually and has a backlist of 700 titles.
The Press is a member of the Canadian Association of University Presses (CAUP), Association of American University Presses (AAUP), the Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP), the International Association of Scholarly Publishers (IASP), and the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia.
